Message: When I was a kid and lived near there (5th & West) and Grandparents @ 7th and Washington the Jazz Cellar as you call it was know as the Hotel Olivere. It was owned by a family with that name who also owned the infamous Deerhead hotdog place around the corner on Shipley. At one time there was a pass through from the bar in the hotel to the Deerhead as I understand it, and you could get the hot dogs at the bar in the hotel. That was upstairs (ground level). As a kid I remember the smoke and the sounds from the place as I would walk downtown to Market St early in the summer. You could do that then. I always wanted to go in but was way too young. You could tell even as a kid, just from the sounds, it was jumping. I always tried to look down into the place as I would walk down 7th but could never see a thing.

Message: Once, traveling through Delaware down I-95 from Connecticut in a borrowed car to pick up my son at Western Maryland U., I pit-stopped at the new-closed local "Delaware House" in the center medium of the highway, did what I had to do, and returned to the car, WHICH HAD DISAPPEARED. After 15 minutes of panicky searching, I suddenly realized that I had gone out through NOT the same door I had entered. That place was too too symmetrical for my addled and fatigued brain
at that moment in time.

Message: At the risk of sounding old fashioned or corny, Wilmington, with all of its neighborhoods, was a great place to grow up and live in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and part of the way into the 70's.

I am really grateful to Harry and this site, enabling all of us to re-visit and re-kindle long lost times, people places and memories.

I believe the restaurant that you are referring to at Lancaster and Lincoln in the 60's was called Marconi's. It is now Attilio's Ristorante.

Message: The whole east side of Morrow Street was garages as I remember. The only houses were on the west side, backing up to Monroe. Like I said, I was only four when we moved at the end of the war. Scari's niece works at CitiBank. Her name is Angela. She lived on Madison St. and also remembers the Padavoni family. A friend of mine bought the corner house at eighth (800) gutted it and fixed it all up. That was 79 or 80. By the time his kid was a couple of years old he had to move out. No place to raise a kid today. Like anything else it's not what it was in 1950.

Message: Bill K, Living at 714 you must remember the comic book trading store (most likely 702 or 4) I was just 6 or 7 (1947/8) and went to trade. They were closed and two kids from Eighth St.came by and told me they would get me a cowboy hat like thiers if I would give them my comics. I think they later became used car dealers. My Uncle came looking for me when I didn't come home in time and he tracked them down. We got the comics back. Life lesson number one.
