Were they in the same building as DanDee on Northeast Blvd?

The 1st chicken franchise that I remember was a Gino's at Penny Hill.

I remember Gino's very well. Had great burgers, much better than those of Kelly's (on the Printz). But I don't really remember chicken as being big on the menu. Doesn't mean it wasn't, just maybe that my memory isn't :)

Message: To Bob O, Arthur Wilson was Chief when I joined the Force. Didn't get to know him very well as He retired the year after I went on. I do remember that he was the only Chief that I can remember that had to be picked up in the morning by a squad car and driven to work, I had that duty a couple of times.I remember my supervisor a couple times making me get
a car and go get him before I went out on my walking beat down the East Side. I also remember the first time we got hand held radios, they were only one way from Central to us on the Street, none
of us(walking men)liked it at all, we thought uh oh now there going to be sending us on calls like they do
the Patrol Cars. However, half the time they didn't work so it didn't wind up as feared. And later on we found out that the radios(or walkie talkies)as some would call them really put us in the game. Because a lot of times things were going down right around the corner from where we might be patrolling but we had no way of knowing and couldn't be of assistance. I could really tell some stories about those first radios and I know Ralph could also. The stories I'm talking about are funny looking back on them but some weren't so funny back then

Message: Phyllis, There was a diner there on Pensylvania Ave right near where Scott Street ends. It was across from Wolhar's grocery store and the drug store on Pa Ave. I believe it might have been a Post House but can't swear to it. The liquor store was on the corner at Lincoln, then Diver's used car lot, then the diner, a little short street, then Union Park Pontiac. I thnk there was a gas station between the Pontiac dealer and Du Pont Street. There may have been something else but that's the way I remember it.

Message: The boy's name Beau \
beau\, also used as girl's name Beau, is pronounced boh. It is of French origin, and its meaning is "handsome; admirer; sweetheart". Short form of Beauregard, and of modern coinage. Use as a given name is probably due to the hero of P.C. Wren's novel "Beau Geste" (1924) or to the character of Beau Wilks in Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind" (1936). Nowadays, the name is likely to be heard as the less formal Bo. English dandy Beau Brummell; actor Beau Bridges; sports celebrity Bo Jackson.

Message: For several years ('56 to '61) WHS and PS played Thankgiving day at the PS field. I remember that they alternated who was the home team. Wilmington High used Baynard Stadium but not for Thanksgiving - I know that Howard, Brown and Sallies used it. On another issue Baynard stadium was not ready at first when the old ballapark shut down. I remember seeing WHS play Sallies on Conrad's field in Woodcrest. I think that was in Oct '56. Anyone remember that?

Message: The WHS/PS game of 1956 was played at PS. I remember that one of the games was to be their home game but they had no field to play on, so we played at the PS field and they had the side with the permanent bleachers and PS used the temporary bleachers.

Message: My grandfather owned and operated Lynthwaite Farm ice cream stores on Concord Pike, the last one at 4725 Concord Pike (near where the Doubletree Hotel is today). My family is looking for a photo of that last store --- I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I've tried some sources with no success.

I was a twirler with the band and remember marching there. Who remembers the bonfire rallies @ Canby Park?

The football team and band practiced at a field that used to be up on the hill on Concord Pike. I-95 now cuts thru there.

Message: My brother Howard graduated WHS in '58. He took be to several Thanksgiving Day games. I can't remember about the 1955 game location. I know that he took me to the game in '56 and '57. They were played on the PS field. The games from '58 through '61 were also played at PS. The '62 game was the first game played at the new WHS field on Lancaster Ave. (It was not ready when the new school opened in '60).

Message: Ralph, the last sporting event played at Wilmington Ball Park was a Sallies-Howard football game in the fall of 1955. After that the stadium stood abandoned for a while and then demolished.
