Message: Glancing at the Customs House, 6th and King, photo on this site reminded me that the Draft Board was located there. When I turned 18, I had to go there to register for the Draft. Shortly afterwards I had to go to 401 N. Broad St. in Phila. for a Pre-Induction physical. When I was drafted in Feb. 1969, I had to go back to 401 N. Broad St. to be sworn in. From there we left Phila. by train to Fayetteville, North Carolina for Basic Training at Fort Bragg.

Saw some interesting things when I went with him collecting. Once an apartment door was left slightly open. What we saw, we didn't understand until later. The man yelled at us and we took off. The woman didn't say anything.

Message: Jerry T - In reference to Candy Stripers in Wilm Hospitals. The Little Sisters of the poor also had the volunteers. I started out there because you only had to be 12 yrs old. You had to be 14yrs at the De Hosp, take a class. This was run by the Junior Board. You were given a schedule and issued the red & white uniform. I left the De to volunteer at St Francis because it was closer to home. The only thing we were really allowed to do was refresh everyones water pitcher. Get them the paper and companionship. Little sisters was the funniest. Those people just loved to talk, tell stories and one old man was a pick pocket.

All the guys tried to date them, but it seemed like they only went out with the Officers. When did they start and when did they end. I don't see them anymore ?
